Yosemite
Conduit and Sewer Encasement
This contract was with the National Park
Service in Yosemite National Park. The Park required an emergency
encasement of a high voltage carrying electrical conduit and sewer
main, crossing the Merced River. The project site was located
adjacent to a campground in Yosemite Valley in the Curry Village
area. The contract duration was two weeks or less depending on
the potential river flows. To accomplish the work J.I. Garcia
had to temporarily divert the Merced River. The resulting 'excavation'
had to be continually de-watered to construct the concrete encasements.
A new sewer line was constructed to replace the existing line.
Several hundred cubic yards of concrete were pumped into the encasement.
The river bed and adjoining banks were restored after the encasement.
The project was completed in less than two weeks and prior to
the increased river flow.
