Renovation of the West Auditorium at Yosemite National Park

Thisproject consisted of the interior demolition of the existing West Auditorium. The new renovation consisted of new storefronts, stage, seating platform, architectural wood trim throughout, acoustical ceilings and walls, new HVAC system, specialty lighting and sound system. This project required that it be completed during the winter months. Snow, cold weather and strong winds made this project complex for accessibility and material delivery. We had had only five months to complete this project -coordinating long lead items in such a short time required a tight schedule and strong follow up. Coordination of various trades in such a small area created various Safety Hazards. JI Garcia Construction meet with Subcontractors weekly to plan a two-week look-ahead schedule to avoid safety hazards and conflicts. Architectural features included extensive specialty carpentry that needed to be stained. This lumber required a constant heat temperature of at least 65 degrees; in order to maintain this temperature JIG set up a temporary heating system until the Heating Coils were installed in the new HVAC system. The auditorium was ready for the grand opening of the"Spirit of Yosemite" movie as scheduled.
