Tuolumne
FM
The primary requirement of this two-phased project
was to replace the existing 6-inch cast iron force sewer main
and encase this new sewer main in concrete. The location of the
existing line ran through a section of the Tuolumne River high
above the Yosemite Valley. A combination of cofferdams, bypass
pumps and pipe culverts were used to divert the river and provide
access for the crews to complete their work. The new HDPE welded
pipe sewer main ran at depths of 8 feet below the river bed requiring
the need for constant dewatering of the trench. Some other unique
features of this project were its remoteness and the logistics
required with its location. The environmental constraints placed
on the project especially since this particular project was within
the sphere of influence of the Yosemite National Park. Regardless
of the many challenges from the project J. I. Garcia Construction
Incorporated successfully completed all work exceeding the expectations
of the National Parks Service.
