This project was an existing facility that required
a full renovation both inside and out. JI Garcia Construction,
Inc. contracted an AIA to design this renovation, this coordination
included the design of materials. The project required a full
design from conceptual plans. Coordination of architectural, structural,
mechanical and electrical design specialties was required.
This design/build renovation shop on the flight line at Travis
AFB. Complete design plans and specifications for the following
general items of work 1) redesign roof pitch from 1:12 to 3:12,
2) EFIS for entire exterior of building, 3) New doors & windows
throughout, 4) Full office renovation, 5) Restroom addition, 6)
Lighting, Fire Sprinklers and Electrical System. Contractor submitted
proposal on a three-days notice, and negotiated one day. Extensive
coordination with Base personnel and user was necessary.
During design phase and after award it was discovered that the
existing roof purlings would support no additional load. JIG designed
the new roof structure to be supported by the main support beams
at no additional cost to the owner.
