China
Lake Naval Air Weapons Center
This $4.9 million dollar project involved the demolition of 63 buildings
located in the Naval Air Weapons Center , China Lake, California.
These buildings were located throughout the base and covered three
counties, Inyo, Kern and San Bernardino. NESHAP notifications for
abatement and demolition were required for each building. Each building
was inspected and cleared by an Air Pollution Control Representative
and Base Environmental before each building was demolished to avoid
contamination and safety hazards that associated with a building
that contains Asbestos Contaminated Materials (ACM) and lead material.
The scope of this work was to abate, demolish and grade to drain
63 buildings as follows 1) assessment of abatement, 2) capping of
utilities, 3) abatement of lead base paint and asbestos containing
materials and 4) tear down and haul off building debris and restore
site. Throughout this project we successfully negotiated to abate
and demolish additional buildings including a hospital. Most construction
debris such as wood wash hauled to landfill, concrete was recycled.
JIG took a full responsible role in this project by conducting environmental
surveys, designing work plans, regulatory notifications, full abatement
demolition, recycling and waste reduction. JI Garcia Construction,
Inc.'s past experience in this type of demolition projects made
this project more economical for the Owner
