Demolish
Buildings, Camp Roberts and Fort Hunter Liggett
This $ 4.5 million dollar project was contracted with the ACOE to
demolish buildings at this World War II vintage Army Guard Base.
The base is evenly divided between San Luis Obispo County and Monterey
County. The regulatory agencies within these counties are very stringent
in there enforcement of environmental regulations.
J.I.G. authored a Program Plan in collaboration with the Regulators,
Key Subcontractors and Army Corps of Engineers. This Program Plan
included a Project Work Plan, Quality Control Plan, Corporate Health
& Safety Plan, Asbestos Hazard Abatement Plan, Accident Prevention
Plan, Activity Hazard Analysis Plan and Environmental Protection
Plan. The document detailed all administrative requirements for
survey, documentation, abatement, demolition, waste reduction, recycling
and reuse. The plan allowed for maximum recycling, reuse and waste
reduction while satisfying regulative requirements. J.I.G. owned
an 850 HP tub grinder for the purpose of waste reduction and recycling
of wood products generated through demolition. The desire was to
reduce the predominately wood structures through grinding and thereby
reduce the number of loads transferred to the landfill. Additionally,
other portions of the building would be recycled to reduce further
loads to the landfill. These portions include all metal parts, concrete
and surrounding paved surfaces. |
